over at apple. one of their employees lost the device while having a drink or two. i'm joce sterman. what is it? it might be the next generation iphone. as mark mullen explains that's got apple as red as it can get. >> reporter: at first this apple engineer mistakenly left this super prototype at a bar sounded sketchy. >> probably had a few too many to drink then left it. >> then we started seeing the specifics of the product. >> reporter: they procured it and thoroughly examined it. >> it is the next iphone. it will be announced in about two months. >> reporter: gi. zmodo published a review showing new features and the flash of low light in a thinner, more angular design. >> the person who found it found it working and apple shut it off remotely.

affected. back river neck, middle river, middle borough, turkey point, hyde point, breezy point and marlon avenue. water will hopefully be restored no later than noon on saturday. nice looking day of april weather out there. you have to like the sunshine. temperature's recovering in the mid-and upper 60s. visible satellite pictures right now with a few clouds streaming into the area. they are streaming out at the moment. that means brief clearing before we cloud up. temperature-wise, we hit 70 out in frederick. stuck in the upper 60s in baltimore. nice evening on the way. we stay pleasant in the low 60s and then eventually down into the 50s. we'll talk about that chance for rain and when we get a little bit of dry weather before the next round of rain is all coming up. joce? now for a look at tonight's top stories.

magnes farm is planning for a megadevelopment that could land 300 houses and condos in the back future. the megadevelopment is being made probable. the preliminary site plan review will be held tomorrow morning. just as toyota agrees to hand over $16.5 million for being slow about its recall effort, the company is keeping more vehicles from moving off dealership lots because of safety issues. toyota is wowing to fix the problem. slowly, slowly air traffic is getting back in the skies over europe. a number of flights took off today but in britain many planes remain grounded because of the giant cloud of ash. some brits stranded in spain are hitching rides home aboard royal navy ships. others are hoping to grab a spot on a cruise liner sent to rescue them. president obama calls the late dorothy height the godmother of the civil rights

movement. she died at howard university hospital this morning. joe johns looks at the legacy she leaves behind. >> dr. tore think l. height. >> at the funeral of coretta scott king in 2006, presidents stood to honor dorothy height. at the age of 93, as she celebrated the life of mrs. king, she might have been talking about her own. >> there are some people who live their lives not just for themselves alone, but for others. >> reporter: and she had a message for the generations that followed the pioneers of the civil rights movement. >> many times when people are going through open doors now, i wish they could hear the stories of how those doors got opened. >> reporter: dorothy height opened doors for thousands. for four decades, she was president of the national council of negro women. she helped organize freedom schools in mississippi at the height of the battle over

segregation in the south, bringing women of different races and backgrounds together for what became known as wednesdays in mississippi. she knew and worked with figures such as rosa parks, whose defiance sparked the montgomery bus boycott. >> it was as if she could hear a soft voice say to her, rosa parks, you are a child of god. you can make a difference. i think she would want to say that there's a lot of work for us to do to make freedom and equality a reality. and that each of us could make a difference. >> reporter: she was close to dr. king and fond of quoting him. >> dr. king always says the black man needs the white man to free him of his freer and the white man needs the black man to free him of his guilt. we need each other. >> reporter: she was awarded for her public service in one

we've got breaking news out of anne arundel county. rescue crews are conducting a water search for a missing 17- year-old. a young man went missing after he was spotted swimming in the river in loathian. we'll keep you posted as the story develops. in tonight's health alert, many americans wage an up and down battle with sugar. especially those added in processed food and drinks. they supply little if any nutrients. a new study shows eating higher amounts can change blood lipid levels and increase heart disease risk factors. here's abc's catherine dolt. >> i'm often surprised by how much sugar is in different products. >> i crave it. it's hard to resist sugary

foods. >> just like eating a high-fat diet can increase your levels of cholesterol, eating sugar can also affect the same lipids. >> we are able to see it with higher consumption with the sweeteners. >> reporter: these co-authors studied u.s. government nutrition labels in more than 6,000 adult men and women from 1999 through 2006. they were divided into five group as cording to the amount of added sugar and caloric sweeteners consumed daily. >> the highest consuming group consumed 46 teaspoons of added sugar. the lowest had on average 3 teaspoons. >> reporter: here's what 46 teaspoons of sugar looks like. >> we found that people who consume more added sugar are more likely to have high cardio vascular disease risk factors. >> reporter: the study appears in this week's jama.

>> one of the things that the study was helpful to show is that the amount of added sugar as it increases, the triglycerides goes up and hdl goes down. hdl levels were 20% lower in those who consumed the least halt. and that's the good cholesterol so you want high levels. it would be important for long- term hel tth to look at how hutch added sugar you are getting and finding ways to reduce that. >> reporter: one way is to read nutrition labels. here were to bowls of similar servings. each have two servings. the one on the left has 6 teaspoons of added sugars, the one on the right, 2 teaspoons. >> we tbheed to pay attention to the amount of caloric sweeteners and added sugars in the foods we eat eat. free trees. that was the give away being offered up today outside any supermarket in rowland park. public service for tree

baltimore along with eddies and other community service groups teamed up with several varieties of young tree saplings for free. it's all an effort to improve the tree canopy in baltimore which can provide it to the residents. >> baltimore has a lot of asphalt and with that comes a lot of heat. what you want to do is you want to use less energy to cool down your house or just your neighborhood, and trees are great at that. >> the city needs more trees. and we have space for them. it's good for the city environment and good for our personal health. it's good for aesthetics. and it's free. >> reporter: the group just completed a tree planting at mergen thawler high school. and with spring in the air, people of course are out planting flowers and enjoy planting outdoors.

really getting into more of a wet, showery kind of pattern there later this week. >> i know. some of us have big outdoor plans. >> and you are ruining them. >> hit or miss. it's not like a deluge coming. in april you never know. >> let's take a look outside right now. nice day. it's been clouding up just a little bit, but we've got 66 degrees, though. that's not bad. humidity 33%. that's not bad. winds calm. that's not bad, either. all in all, a good weather report this afternoon. beautiful day earlier today. you see those sunny skies do give way to generally cloudy conditions later into the afternoon at least downtown but for the most part, things are not too bad. want to show you a look at the pollen count today. mold spores all in the low category. we've got a high count on the tree pollen, maple, oak, ash and elm the dominant pollen. if you are suffering right now, those are the culprits. temperature-wise, mid-60s

across the state. 66 out at hagerstown. a little cooler out in far western maryland. they under the low 70s into virginia and richmond right now. this is all seasonable and typical stuff for the latter part of april. a little spoiled there earlier this month with thele 0s and 9 -- the 80s and 90s. it will bring increasing cloud cover tomorrow right now. our band of cloud cover is breaking up. we've got more coming out of the south and west. this will likely bring rain tomorrow after nan and tomorrow evening. not a lot of rain. this storm is not that impressive. it is a relatively large storm but doesn't look like a lot of punch. the showers will not hold together all that well tomorrow evening. we will see scattered showers. cooler stuff north of us, but it's where we're watching that's south and west of us as this line of showers comes out of the virginia area into maryland tomorrow afternoon. this is 5:00. could douse our beltway here with some showers around that peak evening commute.

you know just a few rain drops will cause major headaches. this looks like it will fizzle out after sun schett tomorrow evening. and then maybe just a patch or two of drizzle at times thursday but it looks like partly cloudy skies. i think most of thursday will be dry, especially later in the day. that will set the stage for the day friday around here. tonight 47, generally cloudy and mild. into the day mild. tomorrow mild and then the chance for showers developing. high temperature into the mid- 60s. tomorrow night 45, scattered rain showers a good bet. but they taper off tomorrow night. that will leave us with a relatively drew scenario thursday. dry thursday late 68 and back up around 70 on friday with plenty of sunshine. enjoy that dry spot late thursday into friday because the chance of showers is back over the weekend. now with a look ahead at 6:00 tonight. i'm kelly swoope. a baltimore city cop pulls out his gun inside a bar.
